TULSA, Okla. -- Gira Schofield from the South Carolina women's tennis team lost in the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship on Thursday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.

Amanda McDowell, the nation's No. 7-ranked player from Georgia Tech, beat Schofield 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 to put the Gamecock's final record for 2007-08 at 23-15. Despite the loss, at No. 45 in the country, Schofield figures to end the year with her best final ranking. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association will release its final rankings once the championships are completed after May 26.
